18th Century Dutch Witwerk Cabinet with Original Key & Faux Delft Decoration
18th Century Dutch Witwerk Cabinet with Original Key & Faux Delft Decoration
A rare and highly decorative 18th-century Dutch witwerk cabinet, dating to the third quarter of the 18th century (circa 1750–1775).
This exceptional piece is executed in its original faux Delft blue decoration, a beautiful and characteristic finish imitating porcelain, highly sought after in the Netherlands during this period. Such cabinets were produced by craftsmen associated with the Witwerkers Gilde, a specialized guild known for creating refined painted finishes that imitated luxurious materials like Delftware and marble—combining craftsmanship with decorative artistry of a very high level.
The cabinet is crowned with an elegant arched cornice featuring five original vases, and retains its original working key, a wonderful and increasingly rare detail that enhances its authenticity.
Inside, the cabinet offers five shelves, making it both highly decorative and functional.
